Ego Lemos
Growing up in Timor Leste during the Indonesian occupation

Born in 1972, Ego is a remarkable man, with a remarkable voice in more ways than one. Regarded as a significant East Timorese community member, Ego has lived through three tumultuous periods of his nation’s history – from the Portuguese colonial rule that lasted almost 500 years, through the Indonesian occupation and to Independence in 2002. His father and three siblings were killed in the conflict. Ego survived to become one of East Timor’s leading agricultural experts. He is also an internationally recognised singer and songwriter telling stories of his country.

In this video, Ego talks about growing up in Timor Leste during the occupation.
